U8 Hawks Win at Heswall

14 May 2008

Glenavon U8 Hawks

The U8 Hawks have continued the Glenavon end of season successes by winning the four team Heswall Invitational Competition.

They were in action against two Heswall sides and opposition from Stoke. The boys were unbeaten on the day and didn't concede a goal in open play.

The Hawks won their final in a penalty shoot out which was based on a 'best of 3' format.

Glenavon won 3-2 thanks to some excellent penalties and a great save from keeper Isaac Owens.

All of the Hawks players were fantastic, especially in the hot conditions. The travelling support also played their part. They were magnificent on the day.

Understandably, the boys were reported to be over the moon following their win.

Well done to the U8's Hawks and coaches Dan Grundy and Andy Thomas.

Hawks Goal Scorers:

K Holsgrove 1
H Mallam 1

Penalty Comp Scorers:

A Dixon 1

U10 Eagles Take WJL Presidents Cup

8 May 2008

Glenavon's end of season trophy haul continues with yet another club side taking silverware.

The U10 Eagles were successful in their Wallasey Junior League Presidents Cup final game with Wirral Juniors. Here is team manager Alan Griffiths' match report:

"Tonight  the Under 10's Eagles won the Presidents cup for the second consecutive year with a storming 3-1 win over Wirral Juniors.

First half goals from Jake Jones and Sean Griffiths and a second half  strike from Sean Ratchford settled the result.

It was a magnificent game which the boys controlled from literally the first minute. Their work rate was phenomenal and some of the football they played was a joy to watch.

Man of the match, Ben Mitchell, personified the performance with his tough tackling and bravery but, and I know it's a cliche,  every one of the boys could have been MOM  as they all showed great skill and desire to retain the trophy with a powerful team performance.

A special thanks goes out to the parents of not only the U10 Eagles, but also the U10 Hawks for supporting us so brilliantly.

Hopefully the Eagles parents will be able to reciprocate the favour next Wednesday 14th May when the Hawks take on Wirral Rangers in the final of the Challenge cup and make it a brilliant night to remember as the under 10's hope to make it a glorious double.

Well done to the Eagles and good luck to the Hawks ahead of their game.

Lancelyn Add Pyke Cup to Complete Cup Double

8 May 2008

Lancelyn Glenavon have taken the Pyke cup with an emphatic 5-0 win over Sportsmans Victoria.

This completes the cup double for Glenavon's open age side who won the Premier Cup earlier in May.

The win completes a great season for Lancelyn who finished a close second in the league.

Well done to all the lads at Lancelyn!

U13's Miss Out on Cup Success

8 May 2008

Keith Dixons Glenavon U13's side suffered heartache in the WJL Knockout cup final against Ridgeview.

The boys never recovered from an early goal from their opponents and eventually went down 3-0.

Commiserations to all the lads of Glenavon U13's. They should be very proud of their achievement in reaching the final of such a prestigious competition.

The U13's finished the season in a very creditable third place in their WJL Division.

Race Night Fund Tops a Grand

1 May 2008

The Glenavon 2008 Race Night fundraiser was a roaring success with over £1000 raised towards team funds.

A great night was had by all with bingo and a raffle helping to swell the final total raised.

Congratulations to Anne Sullivan and her Social Committee team on yet another successful event. Everyone really appreciates the hard work that you put in.

Special thanks to all those who bought jockeys and horses. Well done to all attended on the night and gave their support.

Thank you to the race sponsors for their generous support and Sun Valley for providing snacks for the evening.

Ten-Man Lancelyn Take Premier Cup

26 Apr 2008

Lancelyn Glenavon were victorious over New Ferry Wirral Hotel in their Wirral Sunday League Premier Cup final at Cammell Lairds ground.

Lancelyn Glenavon completed their league campaign on a high with a 6-1 rout of NFWH and went into cup final with a psychological edge. Martin Reeve (3), Andy Bolton, Lee Swannick and Ian Sheridan were the scorers.

The decisive goal in their 2-1 final win came five minutes from the end of the 90.

Lancelyn's success is a great achievement having been reduced to 10 men with less than an hour on the clock.

Lancelyn, Wirral Sunday League Runners-Up behind their opponents, now hope to go on to make it a cup double season. They appear in the Pyke Cup Final against Sportsmans Victoria on Sunday 4th May, again at Cammell Lairds (K.O 6.00 pm).

Well done and good luck to all the lads at Lancelyn!

Glenavon U15 Take Division Title at a Canter

24 Apr 2008

Glenavon U15's have been crowned Champions after a 10-1 victory over Wallasey Wanderers.

This is a fantastic achievement, made all the more remarkable by the fact that the boys have not yet dropped a point this season.

Their record currently stands at 20 wins, no losses and no drawn games.

The championship winning season can be capped off in style if they continue their excellent form against Wirral Athletic in their two remaining games.

Well done to Mike Docherty and his boys!
