The Eagles played their first night game of the season and kept another clean sheet. The Manor keeper seemed to be a magnet for every effort the Eagles had on goal. That was until a long ball was brought down with great skill by Deer, to fire home inside the box. Half time came and the boys were reminded to pass the ball quicker. Within a minute of the restart, a fine passing move down the left found Strahan, who finished, to grab his first of three. The boys thought this was going to be easy and get their names on the score sheet. At times Jones, was left with three men to mark as the defence went awol. Strahan made it 4 with two quick goals, before a thunderbolt from Corran To make it 5.
MOM went to Deer for another fine performance. A big thanks to Gez and the Manor team for their sporting attitude.
REMEMBER BOYS ITS A TEAM GAME.

The Eagles got back to winning ways, after last weeks defeat with six of the best. With the squad down to the bare seven it was a chance for everyone to get a full game. Once again the boys started to dominate from early on.Perry getting his first of four after five minutes. The second arrived with a clever taken corner between Deer and Perry,to make it two. Southall was causing trouble with darting runs from the back. Armstrong was trying his best to open his account for the season chasing down the Rangers defence. With a change at half time to the formation, Jones whent up front and got on the score sheet with a nice finish from inside the box. Deer made it four shortly after, Perry with two more, one a stunnig drive into the top corner. Another great performance and well done to Rangers who battled all game. Well done to Lamb for keeping another clean sheet.

The Eagles made it to the semi finals of the WJL Challenge cup with their best performance of the season.
From the first whistle the boys always looked in charge. Corran and Southall were solid at the back and the midfield trio were setting up attack after attack.
The Hoylake keeper was stopping everything thrown at him, until a rocket of a shot was spilled into the path of Povall to poke it home from close range.
The second half was much the same with the Eagles applying all the presure but they couldn't get the vital second to make the game safe.
A great performance by the all the team. Hopefully we can go all the way.

14 Nov 2009 |
The Hawks game was the final match of the day, on a sodden, boggy pitch. It can only be described as a “leveller”.
The Hawks started with their renowned light brigade charge.
Straight from the kick off they were at Shafts and fighting for every ball.
Within the first 5 mins Cracker,Lucas and Tom had all battled in midfield, and won 90% of the 50 / 50balls allowing them to stretch forward and pressurise the Shafts goal.
Jack was chasing the opponent players down, winning the ball and on occasions playing some lovely touches.
Thomas was in goal and to be fair only needed to collect 2 or 3 balls all half, but he kicked excellently and the 1 occasion Shafts had a shot on goal, he narrowed the angle and saved with his left leg just as the ball was heading into the bottom corner of the net.Great save.
Peter battled well in the very heavy middle of the park, linking with Luke up front. They both had several half chances, but the pitch and conditions hampered all attempts on goal.
The back two of Connor and Callum were once again impressive, the cool calm Callum, controlling and distributing well.
Connor not letting a blade of grass be untouched in his determined pursuit of every and any Shafts man who had the inkling to think they could pass him.
Before the half had finished, the Shafts keeper had made a couple of saves, and Glenavon had had 5 or 6 corners.
Lucas, Peter, Luke and Tom, had all managed to wade through the midfield on several occasions, causing panic to the Shafts defence, and Luke had been unlucky not to catch a couple of half chance.
The second half started as the first had finished, the Hawks determination against the resilient Pumas.
The pitch was only getting worse, and the lads were starting to feel the extra few pounds of mud they were carrying on their boots.
The game looked like being a frustrating 0-0 draw, with half chances turning into sticky free for alls.
Until 3 mins from time, Tom played a ball inside to Cracker, to Lucas who supplied a through ball to Peter.
Peter 5 yards out shot and the ball slipped half under the keeper and half saved, sticking in the mud.
Connor half falling and twisting managed to get a right foot to the ball and it headed agonisingly towards the goal from 2 yards out. It was a stick on the goal line agonising shot until it found the only piece of grass in the goalmouth, and slipped across the line.1-0.
A hard fought half chance goal, that to the Hawks was as deserved as a half volley from the half way line.
The last 2 mins were played out in the quagmire, and although the Hawks got their deserved win, a note must be made of how the Shafts Pumas had equally battled through the conditions never conceding with relentless enthusiasm.
NB Thomas was not called into much action in the second half, but his “sand dancing “keeping warm routine, is coming on a treat.

31 Oct 2009 |
A lovely sunny, early start to the day, although the pitch was a little heavy.
The Hawks started at break-neck speed straight from the kickoff, Cracker and Jamie both making some great crosses within the first 3 minutes.
After 5 minutes, Tom won the ball on the edge of the box and passed to Jamie who rifled a shot into the goal 1 – 0.
Callum and Lucas were solid in defence when called upon, with Callum controlling and playing every ball with confidence, and Lucas reading the game perfectly to intercept any threat upon Luke our first half keeper.
Callum also managed a couple of searching runs from his defensive position, into the opponent’s midfield and beyond, with Lucas staying back and sweeping up any threats.
The only attempt to reach Luke, was a distant shot that he confidently parried and cleared.
The second goal came after Lucas had a looping shot that was goal ward bound well save by their keeper. Peter linked with Jamie, playing a nice one two and Jamie finishing well. 2-0 half time.
The second half started as the first had finished, Jack,Peter,Tom and cracker all battled for every ball.Jack was unlucky as was Luke with a couple of mis-hit shots. Peninsula keeper was on great form, saving some good goal bound shots. Peninsula were awarded a penalty and converted from the spot. 2 – 1.
The hawks just continued to pressure peninsulas goal with Luke, Cracker and Jamie all having chances to add to the score. On the odd occasion Peninsula managed to get into Glenavon's half, the defence was one step ahead and dealt with all threats.
Jack chased in midfield, and Lucas won the ball and cleared to midfield allowing Cracker and Peter to link and passed to Jamie who scored a third goal to seal the tie.
The lads enjoyed the game and were all exhausted. They did not stop challenging and chasing every ball, and their determination as a team payed off.

24 Oct 2009 |
The day started with the report that the Hawks would have to play with the bare minimum of 7 players, as some of the lads were on holiday etc.
With the information that Peninsula had not dropped a point all season, and the rainy conditions, it would not have been surprising if the lads were not more than a little apprehensive about the ensuing 40 mins.
During the warm-up though it was apparent that as a team, they were to a man, “up for the cup“. Straight from the kick-off, Jamie stormed through the opponents midfield followed closely by his midfield support of Tom Portbury, Jack and Michael.
The rain became torrential for the next 15 mins, but the lads battled onwards. Cracker was in goal, and was only troubled by a couple of long range shots, which he dealt with and controlled.
Callam and Connor, were in control of defence and the young Hanson and Lawrenson were at the top of their game against a very good pair of strikers / attacking midfielders.
Tom was picking the ball up in his own half and making great inroads into the opponents half, as was Michael, Jack was pressuring defenders, and played a couple of lovely touches from midfield. All three of them were also chasing back to support when required, as was Jamie.
After 15 mins, Peninsula had a succession of corners, and against the run of play, a mis-hit shot, was finished with power by Peninsulas forward. 1-0 down.
The lads realised that they did not deserve to be losing, and continued with the same determination as they started the game. This paid off, as Peter and Tom linked up in midfield to supply Jamie with a pass to take on. He used his power and dribbling to take on the defence, and lash a shot which the keeper could only parry into the goal. 1-1 at half time.
The torrential rain stopped and the Hawks continued to boss the game. Peter replaced Michael, and continued the battle in midfield with Tom, Jack and Jamie.
Peninsula looked dangerous on the break and from set pieces, but the Hawks had the determination to challenge for every ball and concede nothing.
Callum and Connor were organising the defence responsibilities, and achieving great results against a couple of the leagues best forwards.
Our keeper (Cracker) managed with all the shots and kicked well, also coming out and blocking attackers on a couple of occasions.
Again from a corner though, peninsula scored. It was a great set piece, a corner (or was it Phil?) to the penalty spot, and a pin point header from their number 9. Great goal.
The lads were a little dejected as they carried the ball back to the centre circle, but by the time they kicked off, they were determined once again.
Jamie, Peter,Jack,Tom all battled hard and never left a ball to be unchallenged.
With 5 mins to go it looked as though all the hard effort and determination was to come to no avail, until Connor managed to win a ball in midfield and picked out Jack who found Jamie before Jamie released Peter down the right. Peter cut inside the defenders and unleashed a shot across the keeper into the bottom left corner. Great team goal.
The lads, manager and parents/support were overjoyed.
The determination and Team spirit of the Hawks in this game was a joy to watch.
Tom Portbury was awarded the Man of The Match.

3 Oct 2009 - Knockout Cup |
On a windy but sunny morning at Leasowe the Hawks faced Peninsula Comets in the 3rd round of the Challenge Cup. The Comets came into the match with a 100% league record after 4 wins. Despite this after a good recent run themselves the boys were confident of causing an upset.
The game started at a cracking pace with Peter and Jamie who was starting his first game for the team, battling hard against the Comets midfield duo. Chances were few and far between in the early exchanges until the Comets won a free-kick outside the box. Up stepped their captain who blasted a high shot into the top corner leaving Thomas helpless. The boys responded brilliantly though and soon pegged the Comets back. Cracker won a corner through pure persistence and Peter narrowly missed getting his foot to the resulting cross from Luke for an equaliser. Connor was injured in a typically strong challenge but carried on regardless. The defensive pairing of Callum and Connor were looking strong again and largely untroubled and Lukas putting in another good shift . At the other end Jamie was proving a real handful on his debut with three chances going begging and Peter again hitting the woodwork from long range. At the end of a first half the boys had created a host of chances with Thomas largely a spectator in the Hawks goal. Half-time 1-0 to the Comets.
At the start of the second half the boys created a chance straight from the kick-off which was well saved by the Comets goalkeeper. The improvement in their passing this season is impressive. Despite having the majority of the po session chances came and went and it was beginning to feel like it wasn't going to be our day. A counter attack from the Comets resulted in a shot into the side netting and was a sign of things to come. A corner went straight into the Hawks goal to make it 2-0 and was closely followed by a 3rd to make it 3-0 as the Comets now pressed us back. From the resulting kick-off a superb bit of closing down by Jack resulted in a passing move involving Luke, Callum and Thomas ending with Jamie rifling a well deserved first goal on his debut to make it 3-1. Unfortunately almost immediately a sloppy bit of defending put the game out of reach again as the Comets made it 4-1. The boys let their heads drop and in the final few minutes conceded two more goals to make the final score a very flattering 6-1 to the Comets. The boys though can take great pride in pushing the league leaders close in the majority of the game.
Both the captain for the day Luke and the Comets manager nominated Jamie the Man of the Match................well done.

19 Sept 2009 |
At a warm but dull Leasowe the Hawks were showing renewed confidence before the game but were facing a Manor team who had put in some good performances so far this season. Conor wore the captains armband this week after a superb performance in the last game and set off leading by example with some great tackling and defending from both him and Callum. Thomas started this week in goal where he is proving a real find.
Despite a solid start the boys gifted the opposition a goal against the run of play with some indecision. They responded almost immediately though when after some typically strong work from Peter the ball fell to Lukas who hit a shot from outside the area which rattled the corner of the bar and post with the keeper nowhere. Another great shot from Lukas almost caught the Manor goalie napping but he recovered to save well. The boys were not to be denied though and a great passage of play involving Peter, Jack and Luke ended with Luke hitting a well-deserved equaliser.
Peter was in his element and bossing the midfield by now ably and almost gave the boys the lead but his well-struck shot was saved by the Manor goalie. The whole team were playing with enthusiasm and their passing was excellent making Thomas largely a spectator in goal. You could see the disappointment when they finished the half at 1-1.
The second half was the boys best ever performance with Tom in goal we were never troubled and Thomas showed some nice touches on the wing. The Hawks dominated throughout and were winning the battles all over the pitch. Luke was a constant threat and went close almost immediately as a result of more good passing throughout the team. Peter then followed that up with a good header which was tipped around the post by the Manor goalie. Jack was putting in a good shift and after forcing the defence into a mistake the boys took the lead for the first time this season when Luke stole the ball played a quick pass and Lukas finished emphatically. The boys had the momentum now and seconds later Peter set Lukas up for another great finish.
The chances were coming thick and fast by now with the Manor goalie and his defence working hard to keep the boys at bay.The Hawks were not to be denied though and after another great pass from Peter, Luke wrapped things up with his second and the Hawks fourth in a 4-1 win.
The most difficult part of the match for Conor was picking the Man of the Match but he was in agreement with the Manor coach and picked Peter for his tireless work in midfield. A great result boys!!

5 Sept 2009 |
On a wet and windy morning the boys found the early start difficult after the long school holidays and were caught napping by a well organised and quick Tigers team. They conceded from the first corner of the game despite some excellent defensive play from Conor.
Lukas produced an excellent tackling and passing display and Luke was a threat for the Hawks on the rare occasions we got out of our own half. Despite a string of fine saves from Cracker a second goal followed midway through the half and a great long-distance strike made the score 3-nil at half time.
The boys were a totally different side in the 2nd half and missed numerous one-on-one chances with Tom producing a good display in the midfield.
Cracker put their defenders under pressure with his non-stop running and dragged a couple of good chances just wide. Peter saved brilliantly one-handed when the Tigers broke quickly and was very unlucky to concede a fourth goal right at the end of the half.
The final score was 4-0 but the 2nd half performance bodes well for the season.

| 12 Sept 2009 |
The boys were a little nervous of this weeks match after watching Greenleas draw 2-2 with the Eagles the previous week and it looked like it was going to be a long morning when again we conceded within the first minute. This just spurred the boys on and we were almost level straight away after some great work from Luke resulted in Peter forcing their keeper into a good save.
Conor enjoyed a great battle with their big centre-forward who was substituted at half-time after a real tough struggle. Jack produced two great saves to keep the boys in it but after 10 minutes Greenleas scored again after the boys were slow to react to a corner.
Again the boys responded brilliantly and battled away in what was a keenly competed match by both sides. Conor made a run from his own penalty box which almost got the boys a much deserved goal.
The boys didn't have to wait much longer though for their first goal of the season when Luke beat two defenders before rifling his shot inside the near post. Half-time 2-1 to Greenleas.
In the scond half the boys picked up where they had left off and started to pass well and make chances. A couple of better decisions and the team would have scored more.
Highlight of the game was a save from Thomas which would have graced Match of the Day as he tipped a thunderous shot over the bar from close range.
Greenleas scored against the run of play midway through the half and despite the best efforts of Thomas they added a fourth in the last minute.
The 4-1 final score did not reflect the game and the boys can take heart from what was one of their best performances in the last 2 seasons. Final score 4-1 to Greenleas.
Player of the day - Conor but a mention must go to Jack and Thomas for superb displays in goal in both halves.
