PLAYED AT THE DELPH PITCH#2

Glenavon had a near full side for this game, and Manor only had 10 men. The game started and Manor were always looking for a long ball to chase over Glenavons defence. A good tactic as they were downhill and had only 10 men.

Matty, Michael,Tom,Callum and Connor were all alert though and in complete control of the defence throughout the game.
Lamby had little to worry about, but stayed alert and when required was solid.

The midfield of Glenavon was solid once again with Westy, Ravo, Jordie, Alex Joe and Lucas showing some nice passing/controlled moves.

Jack A, Jamie and Cracker were using pace and determination as well as strength to battle for any chances.

The game never stopped being a good game of football although the score tells a different story. Manor with only 10 men and a make shift keeper (Who played well) made a great game of it, and deserved the goal they got after determination and drive from every lad.

Mark decided to change all the lads positions during the second half and this allowed Tom and Jack A to maraud up front chasing a glory snatching match winner. Jack A put the ball into the back of the net, but the linesman deemed his attempt to be offside. A little harsh from my position 80 yards away.

Tom had a couple of runs on goal until he found himself alone 8yards out and on the end of a through ball. He stuck a leg out, but a bobble or a toe scuff unfortunately scuppered his best chance of scoring. Jack A on the other hand continued to threaten the opponent’s goal until a change fell to him outside the box. With a left foot curl, he lifted the ball into the left hand top of the net to conclude a good game.

Well Done Lads

PLAYED AT RYECROFT ( THE GLEN - WATERLOGGED )
8-Jan-2012

A wet and windy day at Ryecroft for a game that had all the makings of a top of the league tussle.

Glenavon had a near full strength team to choose from, as did the unbeaten Stars.

Glenavon started with 4 across the back. Tom, Callum, Jack  C and Connor. Midfield was Jordie, Alex, Ravo and Joe with Cracker and Jamie starting upfront. Lamby being between the sticks.

The game started at a furious pace, with both teams playing some good football both attacking and defending.
Jordie was getting a lot of ball mainly played from Joe and Alex and was able to start making some driving attacks down the left hand side.

Stars defended well against Glenavon attacks, and were springing out of defence to attack the Glenavon defenders. Connor and Jack C were reading the forwards movements well, and cleaning up between themselves with Tom and Callum clearing balls into midfield to relive any pressure from Stars.

Ravo and Alex were controlling the midfield, and were able to release Jordie, Cracker and Jamie with several penetrating through balls. The Stars centre-half was reading most of the through balls, until Jordie popped up on the left hand side, beat a man and played the ball forward to the feet of Jamie. Jamie controlled the ball from under his foot, took a touch and as the keeper started to close down Jamie lifted the ball into the net.  1-0, good finish.

Joe was challenging for every ball and coming off the better against 2 midfielders at times, as was Alex and Ravo. The control in midfield and timings were perfect, and again enabled our attackers to have a couple of half chances.

Lamby was called upon several times to race out and clear a couple of through balls, and had to be alert when Stars managed to wriggle free of our solid defenders a couple of times, and save some good body shot saves, holding on well considering the conditions it would have been easy for simple mistakes to occur.

Westy and Lucas were brought on, and both slipped straight into Glenavons game structure.
Westy was sitting back a little to supply pace between defence and midfield, and Lucas was battling in midfield with Alex,Jordie, and Ravo.

Glenavon were looking strong and organised, midfield won the ball, and played through to Jordie in the middle of the centre circle. A shout rang out from the forwards and with a look up Jordie slid the ball through the oncoming defenders to Cracker running through at pace. 18 yards out Cracker passed the last defender and left footed lifted the ball into the top of the net. 2-0 well took goal.

The second half was as contested as the first, but Glenavon never looked like giving an inch as proved on many occasions with last minute sliding tackles alleviating any danger form the Stars attacks.

The lads kept their shape well, and started to boss the game with conviction. Stars understandably were a little downhearted, but never stopped trying to claw back the 2 goal deficit.

Glenavon were starting to have more and more attacks, Westy, Ravo and Lucas, driving through with some lovely skills, Alex distributing well, Joe and Jordie continuing to battle, the defence solid with any threats and the forwards driving on and coming very close with some great shots.

The third goal came from a driven cross from Jordie on the left; it reached the far post, where Ravo picked it up, with some skills he managed to turn and slot a great ball to Jamie’s feet to smash in from close range with the defence left sprawled in the net. 3-0 lovely worked goal.

Matty and Jack were pushed upfront to chase another goal in the last 10 mins, and all the lads were not going to let this one slip from their clutches.

The game finished 3-0 and to a man the lads shown ability, skills and determination.

A TRUE TEAM PERFORMANCE THAT WAS A PLEASURE TO WITNESS

Keep it up lads

LEASOWE 2 - SUNDAY  13-11-2011

The game started well with both teams playing good football.
The lads were attacking down both flanks and Greenleas were strong in defence.

Glenavon were coming off the stronger side, but Greenleas had some long balls chased well and our defence had to be on their toes.

The first goal came from a drive through midfield and a ball played into Crackers feet. Although he had his back to goal, he managed to turn and drive home with his left foot.

Greenleas were using their pace up front with long balls over our defence. Connor was supporting well and making some excellent challenges. The first half was 1-0 to Glenavon, and deserved.

Greenleas came out at speed in the second half. From the kick off they fancied an equaliser, and one came 10 mins into the second half.

Our midfield and defence although strong sometimes were losing out on the 50/50 balls and nothing was running for us.

The lads picked up the pace 15 mins in, and our midfield started to carry the ball forward with some good waves of attack.
A few minor chances came, and finally Cracker ran in between 2 defenders and lifted the ball high into the net 2-1.

Greenleas never looked like giving up, but the momentum of the game was with our lads, and 4 mins later, Jordie finished off to make it 3-1 from a parried Cracker shot that was initially saved well by the Greenleas keeper.

A good game of football was played by both teams, and the commitment of all players was apparent.

PLAYED AT THE GLEN 31-OCTOBER 2011

The lads started the game well against a team that had
not won a game all season.

All the lads played well together and some nice passing football was played. Comets never ever give up and this is a credit to the lads and girls. At times, Glenavon forgot their positioning due to the fact they all wanted to score, but understandable.

PLAYED AT OVERCHURCH SCHOOL - KO 1PM

15 out of the 16 players were available today.

The Glenavon line-up was changed around a little to accommodate the lads requirements against a previously unbeaten side.

The game started at a rapid pace, with both sides playing some nice running/passing moves.

Jordie was playing left back in conjunction with Michael and Callum in the centre, and Tom at left back.

The defence in the first half had a lot of pressure to handle, but with Jordie being able to carry the ball out of defence, the other 3 lads were strong and positive together. Tom linking with Peter/Lucas to make defence into attack.

Alex L was called upon several times during the first half, taking all shots with strong hands, even acting as the final defender on occasion to clear back passes well, and come out of his area for several clearances.

Alex P was solid in midfield, as was Joe  and Peter, Alex was strong on the ball allowing Ravo, Joe and Peter to break free  numerous times.

Jamie and Cracker were playing off the midfield and won several good headers to spring chances.

The first goal came out of midfield in our own half.Callum won a crossed ball and passed to Tom. Tom played a pass to Peter in his own half, and Peter made a run down the right hand side. A defender tried to catch Peter, but he was passed him. He looked up and spotted Cracker and Jamie busting a gut to fill the middle.

Peter reached the right hand edge of the box and crossed for Cracker to get a touch onto the right hand post. The ball came off the post and rolled into the left hand side of  the inner net 0-1.

The match was not over, the lads battled hard again from the kick off, Connor, Lucas and Ravo added some great heart to the side chasing attacking players and some how getting good tackles in to alleviate any dangers. Tom Peter and Lucas were all linking well and trying to drive the ball forward, as was Jordie and Alex P.

After Lamby had made some great saves Upton got a free kick. The ball was driven in and the touch took it passed Lamby at pace. 1-1  half time.

The lads had a talk with Mark, and from the kick off it was apparent they were up to win this one.

Alex P bossed the midfield fairly but with strong conviction. The midfielders were playing off him well and the movement from the forwards gave Upton a lot to handle.

Connor supported Michael and Callum in defence, allowing Jordie a slightly more open role which he exploited all the second half.

Joe, Ravo, Cracker, Jordie, Peter and Lucas all had good shots and headers saved by the Upton keeper.

At 1-1 it appeared that although the stronger team, Glenavon didn’t look like having the rub of the green.

The Upton keeper was keeping his side in the game, and as it went on it was only 1 break away from a defeat.

Upton was breaking well at times as Glenavon were going for the win and determined.

Lamby was called upon less in the second half, but the importance of his kicking and handling were paramount to a Glenavon win.

Between him and defenders any break a ways were snubbed out, Michael clearing well when called on

After a relentless wave of attacks against Upton, they conceded a free kick on the left hand side, 25 meters out. Jordie and Alex had previously taken great free kicks resulting in the keeper making some great saves from the loose balls driven in by the lads. On this occasion Jordie struck it directly at the keeper, gaining height as it went, the keeper jumped and managed to reach the ball, but the pace carried it over and into the back of the net 1-2. 2 mins left, but Glenavon were straight in from the kick off.

As the final whistle blew, the result was a fair one, and all the effort and determination had paid off.

ASHVILLE

Glen 2 - 9th Oct 2011

Cracker 4, Joe P 3, Jordan 2, Callum 1, Jamie 1, Joe R 1, Peter 1,

The lads came out of the traps at break neck speed. Straight from the kick off Joe P was torturing the opposition on the left wing, with Jordan, Cracker and Lucas driving forward into good positions.

The first goal came after 2minutes and the first half was all one way traffic.

Tom, Callum, A;ex P, Jack C and Connor were solid in defence sweeping up any loose balls and turning defence into attack at every opportunity. Tom was playing right back and was carrying the ball forward from defence linking up with Lucas who was driving down the right had side.

Connor, when required was making tackles and headers taking any pressure away from defence and allowing Jack C to link up on the left side with Joe P.

Cracker,  Joe R, Jack A and Jordan were breaking from midfield and with some dribbling and intelligent balls were cutting through the oppositions defence with ease. 7-0 half time.

The second half started the same as the first half, with wave after wave of attack. The lads were queuing up to have shots saved by the Ashville keeper, who was a credit in goal. Ashville went 10-0 down, but never stopped trying to drive forward.

Alex L in goal had a couple of minor collections, but had to be at his best to save a great shot from the Ashville forward. Alex had been unused for at least 15mins of the second half, but the save was made at full stretch to his right, knocking the ball out for a corner, saving a well deserved clean sheet.

Jammie, Jack A, Joe P and Peter, all battled well and Callum came up for a corner and scored from the resulting loose ball.

Alex P bossed the game when he moved forward into midfield, linking with Jordan and Cracker to make the game 13-0.

A great game, if a little one sided, but to Ashville’s credit they did not once give up their enthusiasm to make a good game of the match.

A new season and proper football but the same result. The Boys went into the season without playing any friendlies ,due to all our jet setters.

It looked like we played plenty of them the way we started. The defence looking solid  with Lamby just a spectator. We opened our account half way through the first half with a looping left foot shot from Lucas and the goals started to flow. The midfield winning every battle and feeding the forwards, who were causing all sorts of problems. Westy, was given their defence a torrid time down the right, putting quality balls in the box.

Half time and 3-0 up, the Boys were reminded to keep passing the ball and play the way we know and more goals will come. Big Jack went into midfield and was having shooting practice, smashing the bar from 20 yards. Two minutes later found the top corner from the same distance. A break away goal by the visitors didn't upset the team and eventually Joe grabbed his hatrick.

After last weeks great result the Boys were away and couldn't believe how big the goals were. Don't worry boys they wont look that big in five years. Once again we got off to a great start causing the home team keeper into some fine saves. Lucas once again with his left found the corner from just inside the box. Connor got off the mark from close range and Alex turned neatly to fire into the roof of the net. Cracker back from his hols used his pace and strength to smash into the top corner.

The second half started the same as the first had finished attempt after attempt, but we started to all get to eager to score and were getting caught offside. Joe grabbed another two and is causing mayhem on the big pitches, Jamie got his rewards after chasing a back pass down to get a walk in.

Remember to keep our shape, the goals will come. Harder things to come but well done so far, lets keep it going.

BIRKENHEAD YOUTH

18th September 2011

The boys continued their great start to the season with another convincing win on the Glen.

A few boys were missing and Jack A got his first start of the season and with Connor and Alex in the centre of the midfield we were soon bossing the possession.  The defence was solid throughout with Matty, Tom, Callum and Jack C putting in their usual good shift.

Up front the pace and trickery of Jack A, Joe P and Cracker meant we were always a threat.  Passing and moving was the order of the day with Birkenhead struggling to keep pace with the boys.  The goals started flowing early in the game and the woodwork was rattled on numerous occasions.

By half-time we had hit the woodwork 3 times and were 7-Nil up through goals from Jordan (2), Alex (2) Cracker, Connor and Callum.  Estimates of the distance Callum hit his strike from ranged between 20 and 40 yards…………..regardless it was a great finish from a centre-half.

Lamby was again a spectator for most of the half but a lack of concentration and loose positioning as the score piled up meant he had to be on his toes to clear some promising breaks from Birkenhead and ensure his clean sheet.

The second half continued in the same vein with Lucas continuing his fine goal scoring form with two goals and some slick passing.  Jamie was his usual determined self and got on the score sheet with two more much to his dad’s disgust.  Jordan added 2 more of his own and Joe P eventually got his much-deserved goal after numerous great saves from the opposition keeper.  The final score was a resounding 14-0 victory but great credit to Birkenhead as they battled hard throughout.  The boys will face tougher opponents this season and will need to improve their concentration especially with the off-side rule but credit where credit is due for another strong performance!  Let’s keep improving.

The MOM went to Joe P for an excellent all-round performance but well done everyone on a great team performance!!
