U10 Eagles Take WJL Presidents Cup

8 May 2008

Glenavon's end of season trophy haul continues with yet another club side taking silverware.

The U10 Eagles were successful in their Wallasey Junior League Presidents Cup final game with Wirral Juniors. Here is team manager Alan Griffiths' match report:

"Tonight  the Under 10's Eagles won the Presidents cup for the second consecutive year with a storming 3-1 win over Wirral Juniors.

First half goals from Jake Jones and Sean Griffiths and a second half  strike from Sean Ratchford settled the result.

It was a magnificent game which the boys controlled from literally the first minute. Their work rate was phenomenal and some of the football they played was a joy to watch.

Man of the match, Ben Mitchell, personified the performance with his tough tackling and bravery but, and I know it's a cliche,  every one of the boys could have been MOM  as they all showed great skill and desire to retain the trophy with a powerful team performance.

A special thanks goes out to the parents of not only the U10 Eagles, but also the U10 Hawks for supporting us so brilliantly.

Hopefully the Eagles parents will be able to reciprocate the favour next Wednesday 14th May when the Hawks take on Wirral Rangers in the final of the Challenge cup and make it a brilliant night to remember as the under 10's hope to make it a glorious double.

Well done to the Eagles and good luck to the Hawks ahead of their game.

Glenavon U10's on On Tour Wales - 2008

Glenavon U10 at Prestatyn

On the weekend 3/05/08 both the Under 10's Eagles and the Hawks both took part in a two day tournament at Presthaven Sands, Prestatyn.

A brilliant weekend was had by all, not only from a football perspective but also from a social point of view, with both boys and their families having a fantastic time.

Although both teams did not manage to reach the final, the Eagles failed to reach the final 'narrowly' losing their ultimate must win match, and the Hawks made us all proud by winning the award for the most sporting team in the age group.

A huge thanks goes out to all involved but particularly to Barbara Larsen for taking the time to organize the tournament details.

Thanks to the parents and families of the boys for supporting us in our fund raising efforts to get there.
