| Motorbikes Threaten Safety at the Glen... and Not for the First Time.
26 July 2009 |

Once again the Glen is plagued by selfish motorbike owners who seem only too happy to use our home venue as a race track, churning up the playing surfaces and endangering the safety of those using the facilities.
These people seem to believe that Glenavon football club are operating a speedway track at the Glen just for their enjoyment.
We must ask that ALL Glenavon families and supporters be the eyes and ears of the club. Keep hounding the police and let them know what is happening at our home ground.
Please don't leave it for someone else to take action. Phone the police and report the bikers. They are ruining pitches which are maintained with your hard earned subs.
The club is doing everything it can to restrict unauthorised access to the Glen with new gates and fencing. However there are those who are prepared to cut chains and padlocks to get on there for fly tipping or motorbike riding.
Keep your eyes open and report any suspicious activities at the Glen to the police.
Maybe you can even raise our plight with your local councillor. The more dissenting voices the better.
The Police contact details are as follows:

Once Again...Parents are Asked Not to Park at the Solly
|

Glenavon parents are asked to be more considerate when parking cars at The Glen and The Solly.
Cars should be parked such that pathways on the Glen are kept clear at all times to enable emergency access.
Please do not to park in the lane leading upto The Solly. Use the Glen car park.
Areas adjacent to equipment containers on the Glen must also be kept clear to allow movement of goals and equipment.
Parking at the Solly has now become such a concern that parents are now being warned that their child's continued involvement with the club could be in jeopardy.
Team managers are requested to make visiting opponents aware of the problems inconsiderate car parking can cause.

Congratulations and well done to Sylvia and Tony Morgan who organised the Glenavon Fun day.
Their efforts were handsomely rewarded, raising £1300 towards club funds.
Those who took part are already asking if the event will be repeated next year.
Thanks to Parkonians Rugby Club who allowed us to use their facilities for the day. |
Glenavon Tournament Hailed as a Great Success
1 July 2010 |

Congratulations to Andy Thomas and Ian Davies who have organised another successful Glenavon Summer Tournament.
With the help of the U10's parents and many volunteers from most of the clubs' age groups, they have raised vital funds towards the running of our club. The cash is still coming in but the final profit from the day could top £3000.
Thank you to all who put up goals, gazebos, staffed the car park, sweet stalls and organised raffles.
Those who sponsored pitches and provided raffle prizes must take a large amount of credit. Their generosity is much appreciated by all at GJFC.
Only a few teams dropped out due to the World Cup but the football seen at the tournament was a far more satisfying spectacle than that conjured up by the national side.
If your club took part we hope you had an enjoyable day and hope to see you again next season.

Hawks Take Tournament Crown
1 July 2010 |
Hawks celebrate their victory
|
Well done to Glenavon U8s Hawks and Eagles who both had very good performances at the Glenavon tournament, meeting in the semi final. The Hawks narrowly winning and moving on to the final.
With a 2-0 lead in the final Greasby pegged it back to 2-2 and eventually penalties decided it.
Glenavon Hawks calmly slotted all their penalties to win 5-4 and become the first Glenavon team to win their own tournament.

Glenavon Demands Respect
4 May 2009 |

Respect is The FA’s programme to address unacceptable behaviour in football – on and off the pitch.
On average, 7,000 referees quit football every year because of the abuse they receive from players and from the sidelines.
Lots of children also pack it in because of the attitude and actions of over-enthusiastic and pushy parents.
As a charter standard club Glenavon JFC fully supports the principles and aims of this important campaign. We demand that our players parents supporters and officials meet the high standards expected of a well respected club such as ours.
We have a club Code of Conduct, a copy of which, is given out with every player signing on form at the beginning of the season. It is extremely important that this document be read and clearly understood by parents and players alike.
The Glenavon JFC Code of Conduct can be viewed by clicking this link. Glenavon Code of Conduct.
The FA have a wealth of information on their Respect programme on their website at www.thefa.com.
Glenavon have summarised some of the main points of the campaign. These can be viewed here. |
